In speed skating, every bit of air resistance counts. Flapping clothing slows you down and can be a nuisance at high speeds. That is why speed skaters wear close-fitting racing suits and tights that hug the body like a second skin while still allowing full freedom of movement in the low skating position. Racing suit, tights or shirt?

The right size
Racewear should fit tightly but not restrict you. If possible, try suits on in the skating position, i.e. with your knees bent and your upper body leaning forward. The fabric should not pull across your back. Many speed skaters wear slim pads, which add hardly any bulk, under their racewear.
