A longboard is longer than a classic skateboard, has a longer wheelbase and usually large, soft wheels. As a result, it runs smoothly in a straight line, rolls easily over joints and small stones and gives you the feeling of gliding over the tarmac on a surfboard. Who is a longboard suitable for?
Longboards are a good introduction to boarding because they are more stable than short boards. They are suitable for rides through the city, for long journeys along the river or for relaxed carving on gentle downhill stretches. Tricks in the skate park, on the other hand, are the domain of Classic Skateboards.
Riding tips
- Pushing off: Your front foot stays on the board while you push off with your back foot.
- Steering: You steer by shifting your weight onto your toes or heels.
- Braking: On flat stretches, braking with your foot on the ground is enough at first. Only tackle steep descents once you can brake confidently.
